Playing DayZ Solo? Rerun Keeps Chernarus Alive With AI
In short: Rerun is a free PC server for DayZ on Chernarus with 50 AI survivors who loot, eat and bleed by the same needs as you, so the map is never empty, even when you're the only player online. Vanilla loot, PvP rules, always daylight.
Most DayZ players know the feeling. You log in at an odd hour, pick a server that looked busy in the browser, and spend the next two hours alone on a beautiful, completely empty Chernarus. DayZ is at its best when you never know who is around the next corner. Alone, there is nobody around the next corner.
Rerun is our answer to that: a public PC server where 50 AI survivors live on the map around the clock, whether anyone else is online or not.
What are the AI survivors?
They are characters that live by the same rules as you. They get hungry and thirsty, they bleed, they loot houses and military sites, open cans with the right tool, dress for the weather and travel across the map when the coast runs dry. They are built on DayZ Expansion AI, with our own survival layer on top that decides what a survivor needs and what it does about it.
They are not a horde and not a mission. Nobody spawns them in front of you for loot. They spawn, live, and sometimes die, just like a player would. Their body and backpack survive a server restart: a survivor you saw in Elektro before the 16:00 restart is still somewhere on the map after it.
Do they count as players?
No. The server browser only counts real players, so "0/50" really means no other humans are online. The name of the server says how many AI survivors there are, and our live numbers show how many are alive right now. We never pretend they are people.
Is Rerun a PvE server?
No. The rules are vanilla PvP. In practice you'll meet AI survivors far more often than players, but if you meet a player, it's DayZ.
Be careful with the survivors, but you don't have to shoot first. Since 6 October a survivor leaves a stranger alone until the stranger threatens it. Hit one, swing at it up close, or aim a raised gun at it from within 100 metres while it can see you, and it treats you as an enemy. Back off and it calms down again.
What else is different from vanilla?
- Always daylight. Every restart starts at noon and the clock runs slowly, so you never log in to a pitch-black map.
- Vanilla loot, no traders. Six light mods, which the DayZ Launcher downloads for you. No base-building packs, no custom weapons.
- Restarts every 4 hours, at 00, 04, 08, 12, 16 and 20 h, Amsterdam time.
- Rerun Hour on Fridays and Sundays, 20:05 to 23:00 Amsterdam time: the admin plays as a normal survivor, without admin tools, so you'll actually run into people.
How do I join?
Open the DayZ Launcher, search for Rerun in the Community tab, or use Direct connect with our IP address and port. The launcher downloads the six mods for you. The step-by-step version, with the address to copy and our rules, is on the join page.
How we keep it honest
Everything we say about the survivors comes from the server's own logs. You can see the live numbers on the stats page and what happened each day in the daily log. We never publish where the survivors are.
